Watts Gang Task Force Council

The Watts Gang Task Force Council is a volunteer group of Watts community leaders, community members, elected officials, police officers, and representatives from local schools and non-profit organizations committed to fostering a safe and thriving Watts community by helping reduce gang violence, improve community safety, and enhance the quality of life for all Watts residents.

In 2005, the South Los Angeles community of Watts was devastated by the senseless violence that claimed several lives in the span of a few months. Weary residents and community members partnered to create the Watts Gang Task Force Council. Since then, the Council's dedicated efforts have resulted in a steady decrease in violence.

At the heart of this success are the Council's intervention strategies and structured activities that offer youth and young adults exercise and engagement outlets, a structured post-incarceration re-entry program, and essential resources for families centered around education and health-related needs. The Council has effectively taken the necessary steps to create a safer community while helping build a self-reliant Watts community through support for economic development. GRoW @ Annenberg is proud to support the Watts Gang Task Force Council and its community-building initiatives.
