Fighting for an AIDS-Free Future

Since its founding in the early 1990s, the Elton John AIDS Foundation has served as a global leader in providing philanthropic support for current victims of the disease and reshaping the future of HIV/AIDS. The organization believes in a multi-faceted approach to grappling with this epidemic through collaboration between government policies, social programs, scientific innovations, and health care aimed at comprehensive prevention and treatment.

Creative Grantmaking Supports Comprehensive Solutions

Despite the progress made in recent decades to combat AIDS, millions of lives are derailed each year by the pandemic. Through creative and dynamic grantmaking across the globe, the Elton John AIDS Foundation supports a variety of unique and innovative programs aiming to solve this issue once and for all. These programs, whether health, education, or advocacy-oriented, strive to alleviate suffering for individuals living with HIV/AIDS, educate communities about proper preventative methods, and construct a future with significantly reduced instances of infection. Specifically, the Foundation prioritizes providing flexible and ever-shifting aid to marginalized communities that are disproportionately afflicted by this health epidemic, including gay and bisexual men, transgender people, black women and men, incarcerated populations, and injection drug-users. By encouraging those suffering from HIV/AIDS to lead the fight against it, the Foundation empowers them to regain their own confidence and simultaneously improve others’ quality of life. This dually preventative and reactive support stretches to all corners of the globe the Foundation’s two distinctive branches. The United States-based operation provides assistance to the most disempowered communities in the Americas, while the London-based branch oversees grantmaking in Europe, Asia, and Africa.
