Black is Beautiful: The Photography of Kwame Brathwaite Opens at Skirball

On April 11, the Los Angeles-based Jewish educational and cultural museum unveils an exhibition featuring the compelling works of a leading artist in the second Harlem Renaissance.

This exhibition is the first significant survey of Brathwaite's photography, and it focuses on images that magnified and encapsulated the "Black is Beautiful" cultural movement of the 1960s. Brathwaite's work questioned mainstream beauty standards, celebrated Black women and men with natural hair and clothes that honored their African roots, and illuminated the vital black arts community. GRoW is honored to be one of the sponsors for this inspiring exhibition, which runs through September.
