Loving Hands Hosts 13th Annual Mother's Day Healing Luncheon for Grieving Mothers

The hour-long May 9 event — which includes musical performances, speakers, poetry, and raffles — will be held virtually for the first time, on Facebook Live.

Kathy Wooten, founder and executive director of the Watts-based organization, has hosted an annual Mother's Day luncheon for mothers who have lost a child. Wooten started the event after the deaths of two of her own children to gang violence in 2008. Although Loving Hands is unable to hold its annual gathering this year in the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization remains committed to offering support and a safe space for mothers to both celebrate and mourn their children during an especially challenging holiday.
