April 30: The World Celebrates International Jazz Day

Nearly 200 Countries Celebrate International Jazz Day

The Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz partners with the United Nations and UNESCO for the 10th annual celebration of the beloved music genre, which spotlights jazz and recognizes the essential role that it plays in uniting the world.

International Jazz Day joins together communities in more than 190 countries, plus every state in the U.S. This global event reaches more than 2 billion people annually, featuring virtual and in-person events, activities, and performances promoting the revered art form. International Jazz Day is chaired and led by UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay and legendary jazz pianist/composer Herbie Hancock, who serves as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Intercultural Dialogue and chairman of the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz.
