May 8: Loving Hands Hosts Virtual Mother's Day Event for Grieving Mothers

On Saturday, May 8, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Loving Hands hosted its virtual Mother's Day event, live on the Loving Hands Facebook and YouTube pages. Kathy Wooten, founder of Loving Hands, served as the host for the live event, and Reverend James Lawson, American civil rights activist and university professor, provided an opening invocation to welcome all guests, as well as a closing prayer.

This special event included inspirational speakers, musical performers, poetry, a raffle, and much more. The annual Mother's Day Luncheon recognizes mothers who have experienced the heartbreaking loss of a child and offers a healing space for women to gather together for reflection, comfort, and inspiration. Kathryn Wooten, founder and Executive Director of Loving Hands and a life-long resident of the Watts community, established the event after the deaths of her two oldest sons in January and March of 2008. Her commitment and focus on healing and restoration reminds grieving mothers and their family members that they are part of a community that cares for them and is there to provide support during a difficult and challenging holiday.
