Friends At Mafundi Holds Second Annual Watts Black History Poetry Jam

The coalition seeking to sustain the culture and traditions of the Los Angeles community is once again showcasing poets and spoken-word artists.

Friends At Mafundi will host its second annual poetry competition that pays tribute to Black history on March 23 at the Watts Happening Cultural Center in the Watts Coffee House interior courtyard. Poets and spoken-word artists between the ages of five and 21 who recite original works can submit their self-recorded work until April 15. Finalists will be notified on April 18 and invited to the Watts Happening Cultural Center for an awards ceremony that will be live-streamed for special guests. For all other guests, the ceremony will be rebroadcast on the Historic Watts Facebook page on April 29. First-, second-, and third-place medals and cash prizes will be awarded in multiple categories.
