Emmy-Award Winning Newscaster Christine Devine Joins Another Successful Loving Hands Mother's Day Luncheon

On Saturday, May 7, the day before Mother's Day, Loving Hands hosted its 15th Annual Luncheon for bereaved mothers. Every year since its founding, Kathryn Wooten and the Loving Hands community provide a communal space for mothers to grieve, heal, and support one another during a challenging holiday weekend.

After the death of her two eldest sons in January and March of 2008, Kathryn Wooten founded Loving Hands Community Care. Kathy, a life-long resident of Watts, California, is committed to facilitating healing for women who have experienced the unthinkable: the loss of a child.

The Luncheon focused on the importance of self-care after experiencing such unimaginable and heartbreaking grief. Loving Hands expanded its reach again this year outside of the Los Angeles region, flying in mothers from Louisiana, Ohio, and Georgia. These mothers, who were all affected by violence and trauma, spoke about their journeys of grief and healing. At this Luncheon, and through year-round programming, Loving Hands offers a safe, loving, and sacred space that reminds mothers that they are never alone.

This year, Christine Devine from Channel 11 news attended the event, sharing her inspirational work, particularly with foster youth in Los Angeles.
