2022 UN Ocean Conference Seeks Global Commitment to Save Our Oceans

The United Nations is working with governments, scientists, and activists across the planet to find urgent solutions for an environmental crisis.

The world's oceans sustain more than three-quarters of all life on this planet, are responsible for 50 percent of the oxygen in the air, and absorb 25 percent of all carbon dioxide emissions. And right now, they are in dire jeopardy from marine pollution, depletion of fish stocks, climate change, and a host of other challenges.

How can we help to save the seas at a critical time in our planet's history? That question is being explored, if not answered, at the 2022 UN Ocean Conference, which is hosted by the United Nations from June 27 to July 1 in Lisbon, Portugal. Co-hosted by the Kenyan and Portugese governments, this crucial summit is seeking revolutionary science-based solutions to heal our ailing oceans and setting course for immediate action. Two dozen heads of state and government are among the 6,000 participants pledging help to solve this ever-growing environmental emergency.
