School of American Ballet

The New York-based School of American Ballet has a much-deserved reputation for excellence, training more students to become professional dancers than any other ballet school in the country.

GRoW Fellow, Mira Nadon

The School of American Ballet announced that Mira Nadon (pictured above), SAB’s GRoW Fellow in 2016-2017 and 2017-2018, was selected as an apprentice by New York City Ballet. She joined the company for the 2017 winter performance of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker™ at the David H. Koch Theater.

Mira, age 16, is from the city of Claremont in Los Angeles County. She attended SAB’s Summer Courses in 2014 and 2015 before enrolling as a full-time student in fall 2015. Last June, she performed in the School’s Workshop Performances, dancing a lead role in George Balanchine’s Scotch Symphony and performing in Christopher Wheeldon’s Scènes de Ballet. In October 2017, Mira choreographed a new ballet for SAB’s Student Choreography Workshop.

As an apprentice, Mira continued to take classes at SAB, live in the School’s onsite Residence Hall, and have access to SAB’s full array of student programs and services. Her scholarship from GRoW @ Annenberg helped underwrite these costs.

New Diversity Fellowship

Founded by legendary choreographer George Balanchine, the SAB is the official school of the New York City Ballet. Every year, approximately 650 boys and girls, ages 6 to 18, receive classical ballet instruction at SAB and many have been offered performance opportunities through the school’s affiliation with the prestigious New York City Ballet.
