Preserving an Iconic City

Los Angeles Conservancy

In 1978, the Los Angeles Conservancy was formed to save downtown L.A.'s Central Library building. Today, the Conservancy continues to ensure the preservation of historical buildings, structures, landscapes, and neighborhoods that make the city unique. Through education and advocacy, the Conservancy raises awareness about the value of historic places that strengthen L.A.'s communities, foster economic development, and enrich the lives of all Angelenos. For the past 40 years, the Conservancy has saved many architectural landmarks from being demolished, while also becoming the largest preservation organization in the United States with nearly 6,000 member households.
