Opening a Plant Paradise to the Public

Ganna Walska Lotusland

Madame Ganna Walska was a world-renowned Polish singer and socialite. She purchased a 37-acre property in Montecito in 1941 and spent the next 43 years creating Lotusland, a garden with a collection of diverse, exotic, and whimsical plants. Following her death in 1984, Lotusland became a nonprofit botanical garden. Since opening its doors to the public in 1993, Lotusland has achieved international acclaim. Today, Lotusland is considered one of the top ten best gardens in the world. Its unique collection, preservation, and horticulture programs educate and inspire vast audiences every year. Above all else, Lotusland strives to provide visitors an understanding of and appreciation for the critical role plants play in our lives and in the wellbeing of our planet as a whole.
