Clínica Romero Celebrates 40th Anniversary of Lifesaving Health Care

In 1983, a group of Salvadoran civil war refugees and volunteer physicians established Clínica Monseñor Oscar A. Romero as a way to serve the medical needs of fellow community members in Los Angeles. Four decades later, Clínica Romero (as it's commonly called) still provides a lifeline to residents in the Los Angeles neighborhoods of Boyle Heights and Pico-Union, but its mission and footprint have expanded. The clinic now offers its affordable, high-quality, culturally sensitive health care (including medical, dental, vision, and behavioral health) to underserved residents of greater Los Angeles through six clinics located across the region, and it empowers patients through health education, community organizing, and social justice.

Clínica Romero will commemorate its 40 years of service and look ahead to the future at its 40th Anniversary Celebration on November 16 in Los Angeles. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass will serve as the keynote speaker at the event, which will honor Assemblymember Wendy Carrillo with its Legacy Award and Cedars-Sinai Cancer director of community outreach and engagement Zul Surani with its Health Equity Award. Proceeds from the fundraiser support Clínica Romero's array of health care services and initiatives, which include a public-private partnership with the Lanterman Regional Center that provides health care for individuals with developmental delays.
