Watts Leadership Institute Hosts Black Panther Screening and Day of Educational Programming

On August 11, GRoW will sponsor the event led by the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs initiative, which supports nonprofits and community leaders in Watts.

Co-founded by Jorja Leap and Karrah Lompa, Watts Leadership Institute (WLI) is organizing a special event this summer in which 150 Watts residents will visit American Cinematheque's historic Aero Theater in Santa Monica, California to watch the Marvel superhero movie Black Panther in 3D. Following the screening, these community leaders, philanthropists, academics, and entrepreneurs will participate in a Q&A session with Jeffrey Byrd, former co-chair of the African American Steering Committee (AASC) of the Directors Guild of America and current AASC Director Category Representative. Later that evening, the group will attend a celebration at the nearby Annenberg Community Beach House to recognize the critical work of WLI and its inaugural cohort.
