Santa Monica Mountains Fund

The Santa Monica Mountains Fund strives to protect and preserve the Santa Monica Mountains through conservation efforts, educational programming, and an ongoing relationship with the National Park Service.  In these ways, the Fund helps to foster an understanding of and passion for the sublime natural beauty of the mountains.

In the News

On August 9, 2018, the National Park Foundation will team up with the Santa Monica Mountains (SAMO) Fund to host a graduation ceremony for participants of the SAMO Youth Mentor Program. At the graduation, high school students will celebrate the end of their summer work at the Santa Monica Mountains, where they completed a hands-on, educational, and eye-opening mentorship program. Throughout the course of the program, students learn about the National Park Service’s mission, values, and operations. The program employs students for two consecutive summers, which provides a direct connection to potential future internships and jobs.

Bringing Together the Public and Parks

In 1988, the Santa Monica Mountains Fund was formed by citizens in an effort to represent public opinion regarding preservation and recreation in the mountains.  Since then, it has worked closely with the National Park Service to support and execute programming specifically involving the Santa Monica Mountains.  The Fund’s programming ranges from conservation efforts, to educational opportunities, to bridging the gap between children and nature.   The organization additionally sponsors scientific research and student internships related to the Fund’s projects and programs.
